10 Questions With Gerald Lovato (by Darrick Patrick)
Gerald Lovato is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as King Of The Cage, Ring Of Fire, Hardcore Championship Fighting, Fightworld, and Ultimate Warrior Challenge.
Darrick: What was the path that led you to competing professionally in mixed martial arts?
Gerald: Having never been an athlete growing up, it was something I never really planned. It just kind of happened. I have always felt that I had a fighter's instinct, but was surprised when I found it to be my passion. I am just glad to have found my passion in life.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Gerald: My parents. After all of the bad things that my brother and I have put them through, they are always there for us. My family is very important to me.
Darrick: What does a typical training session for you consist of?
Gerald: I train six days a week, twice a day. Mixed martial arts, power lifting, wrestling, Judo, boxing, Thai boxing, submission grappling, and many other ninja skills.
Darrick: Any words of advice for younger individuals looking to train in martial arts?
Gerald: I encourage everyone who has an interest in martial arts, for basic fitness or competition, to try it. Martial arts are a great way to express yourself.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of MMA?
Gerald: I just love to train, man. I'm an addict and MMA is my addiction.
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Gerald: My senior trainers Tom and Arlene Vaughn. They are really good people who are just like family - they have taught me much more than just how to fight.
Darrick: Outside of mixed martial arts, what are your other interests?
Gerald: I love to spend time with my 10 year old daughter Esperanza. She is my number one fan. I like anything that has to do with art. Tattoos, painting, music, photography - you name it.
Darrick: What moment in your life have you been proudest of so far?
Gerald: The first time I stepped in the cage, I was so nervous and scared. Not scared of who I was fighting, scared of the unknown. I overcame the fear and got in there anyway. I was very proud.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Gerald: I'm a mamma's boy. I hate to admit it, but now everybody knows.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Gerald: I don't know, but I can remember my first fight. I was in second grade. We always lived in rough areas of town and the kids I went to school with were very rowdy. I never picked a fight, but I always ended up having to defend myself.
