10 Questions With Leslee Ojugbana (by Darrick Patrick)
Leslee "Hollywood" Ojugbana is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as King Of The Cage, Goshin Ryu, Cage Warriors Fighting Championships, Fight Club UK, Cage Gladiators, Strike And Submit, and Cage Fighting Championships.
Darrick: What led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?
Leslee: Well, I originally started off martial arts as a kid in Karate, which my brothers and I were directed to by my mother back home in Lagos, Nigeria. At the age of sixteen, I came over to the UK and by the age of eighteen I had always wanted to try boxing. My girlfriend at the time told me to stop going on about it and do it - so I did.
I found I wasn't gaining much from the club that I had joined, then a friend at my university suggested that I join him at a Jiu-Jitsu/MMA class ran by Peter McQueen in Sunderland, England. I basically caught the bug and started fighting.
Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?
Leslee: Don't just talk about the dream, live it.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Leslee: My mother and father.
Darrick: What does a typical training session for you consist of?
Leslee: Starts out at noon with a light warm-up, and I mean light because I hate warming up. (Laughs) Then, I jump straight into the deep end by basically rolling or full MMA sparring, and on some days I fit in some circuit training, running, and hill sprints.
After every session, I'll weight train/condition one or two body parts. I'll then go back to the gym later that day and work my submission wrestling techniques, or boxing with my boxing coach Shaun Casey.
Darrick: In your experience so far, what brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Leslee: Knowing that you have a physical ability that most people on the streets don't have.
Darrick: Who is someone in the sport that you highly respect?
Leslee: GSP has to be my all-time greatest fighter that I respect, just because of his graciousness and pure athleticism. He is a gentleman.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Leslee: I am very interested in money. Yes, I am money motivated and due to this, at the age of twenty-five I can say that I am quite well off. I love my business at the moment and I work very hard for everything I've got. Train hard, fight easy! Work hard, live easy!
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Leslee: I'm Nigerian royalty - oh, and I'm not black. (Laughs) I'm the best of both, white and black.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Leslee: Being on my hands and knees as a lil' child between my mother's legs while my mother stood at the door of our house speaking to someone in Ikeja, Lagos (Nigeria). Oh, I don't know. (Laughs)
Darrick: If you had superpowers, what would they be?
Leslee: Yeah, you guessed it - the powers of a money tree. (Laughs)
