10 Questions With Eddie Wineland (by Darrick Patrick)
Eddie Wineland is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as World Extreme Cagefighting, Total Fight Challenge, Duneland Classic, Courage Fighting Championships, Ironheart Crown, Freestyle Combat Challenge, Xtreme Kage Kombat, Total Martial Arts Challenge, HOOKnSHOOT, Extreme Challenge, Shooto, and Maximum Combat.
Darrick: What was the path that led you to professional mixed martial arts?
Eddie: I started wrestling when I was six years old and continued all the way through high school. After high school, I was kinda' lost and my buddy Jason Veach had been doing it since our sophomore year. He asked me to come and work out a couple of times, and after two months of training I stepped into the cage.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Eddie: My parents for sure - they raised me. My little brother has had a big influence on the way that I look at things. No matter how bad it hurts or how much you want to quit, there is always someone out there who has it worse.
Darrick: What does a typical training session for you consist of?
Eddie: Normally, I work a ten hour day and lift weights for about a hour to a hour and a half. From there it's hitting pads, heavy bag, hard sparring, or a lot of grappling and going over techniques that need some work. I try to focus a lot on cardio, so long rounds and lots of pushing through.
Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?
Eddie: If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat. You have to leave everything in the cage, you can't be scared of anything, and the only way you're going to do that is to give everything you have for those fifteen minutes you're in there.
Darrick: Who is someone in the sport that you highly respect?
Eddie: Anderson Silva - he's so fluid in his movements and he's humble.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Eddie: Showcasing what I've worked so hard for and entertaining the fans.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Eddie: I just recently started a career in firefighting, and anything that has a motor and is fast. I'm just like any other average twenty-four year old guy, I like to go out and have a good time.
Darrick: What comic book character do you relate to most?
Eddie: I'm not big into comics, but my favorites were always Wolverine and Deadpool.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Eddie: Oh, wow...ummm. I'm pretty straight up and easy to read, what you see is what you get. I would like to learn how to play the violin.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Eddie: Hmmm...a lot of them! Probably peeing down the stairs or under the sink, or pulling the toilet paper completely off the roll. (Laughs)
