10 Questions With Matt Horwich (by Darrick Patrick)

Matt "Suave" Horwich is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as the International Fight League, World Cage Fighting Championships, Strike Force, American Championship Fighting, SportFight, Extreme Challenge, Freedom Fight, X Fighting Championships, Kickdown Classic, World Extreme Cagefighting, Extreme Fighting Challenge, Professional Fighting Association, Cage Fighting Championship, Pacific Pankration Kickboxing Association, and Ultimate Ring Challenge.

DarrickWhat was the road that led you to competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

Matt: I went back and forth between wanting to be a martial artist and a musician while I was growing up, now I'm hoping to do all of the above - all things are possible to those who believe!

Darrick: In your experience so far, what brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Matt: Continuing to improve every fight and giving all the glory to God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.  It's a beautiful universe!

Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

Matt: Live with faith and courage, and make the most out of every moment!  Every positive choice adds up, and we can all make our dreams come true and make a big difference.  The world always needs new heroes!

DarrickWhat does a typical training session for you consist of?

Matt: Sparring rounds, technique, a lot of cardio, jump rope, bag work, foot work, shadow boxing in front of the mirrors, and weight training twice a week.

DarrickWho are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Matt: Jesus, King David and Solomon, Matt Lindland, Eddie Bravo, Randy Couture, and B.J. Penn.

DarrickWhere could you possibly see the future of the sport ten years from now?

Matt: Well, hopefully fighters will be making thirty million dollars a fight or more like the boxers were making - and technique and competition will continue to evolve in grappling and stand up.

Darrick: Outside of martial arts, what are your other interests?

Matt: Music, poetry, art/creative expression, science, quantum physics, astronomy, biology, philosophy, playing classical guitar, fishing, spirituality, and church.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Matt: I'm working on a poetry book and spoken word poetry music album with friends.  It's about spirituality, the beautiful universe of galaxies and particle entanglement, antimatter, dark energy of empty space and matter, quarks, nature, all of God's beautiful creation, flowing on technique in the ring - one combo or submission to the next, or chords and notes in music.  Time, gravity, space, and how it's all connected.

Darrick: If you had 24 hours left to live, how would you spend that time?

Matt: With family and friends.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Matt: Eating hand-washing soap and throwing up on my birthday presents when I was two or three years old.
