10 Questions With Chad Jay (by Darrick Patrick)
Chad "Don't Play" Jay is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as Fight Force International, Extreme Fighting League, Universal Gladiator Championships, World Extreme Fighting, Masters Of The Cage, No Love Entertainment, International Sport Combat Federation, and Reality Combat Fighting.
Darrick: What was the path that led you to competing professionally in mixed martial arts?
Chad: I always loved watching the first UFC as a kid and as soon as I found a local place to train, I started learning Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai at sixteen years old.
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Chad: My favorite fighters are the ones that try to finish fights - like Fedor, Hermes Franca, and Anderson Silva. You gotta' respect the guys with good game plans though, like Randy Couture, who is probably the man I respect the most.
Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?
Chad: Start out as soon as you can. It's always good to have some high school and college wrestling - if you miss out on that, you're already a step behind and you're playing catch up.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Chad: I just like winning. I've never experienced anything worse than losing a MMA fight.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Chad: I really don't like letting people down - so anytime somebody teaches me something, I try to learn it. So, I guess everybody that has helped me out along the way, especially Alan Belcher and John Dixon.
Darrick: What does a typical training session for you consist of?
Chad: Every night is different, but I like to get in a couple nights of sparring a week, three solid strength and conditioning workouts, and a lot of wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu practice.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Chad: I like spending time with my family and friends. I am also a huge dog lover - I have a couple of dogs and they keep me happy when I have some free time. I'm a big football fan also...GO SAINTS!
Darrick: When you're no longer amongst the living, how would you most like people to remember you?
Chad: I hope that I am remembered for my character and personality. Fighting is just a part of my life.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Chad: When people meet me, they would never believe that I was a fighter. I don't feel like you gotta' have a "tough guy attitude" to be a tough guy.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Chad: I remember my first little league touchdown and how excited I was. I've probably still never been that happy.
