CBS-ELITEXC RETURNS JULY 26 WITH LAWLER-SMITH 2

EliteXC on Saturday night, during its Return of the King telecast on Showtime, announced the second edition of CBS-EliteXC Saturday Night Fights for July 26.

The main even of the promotion’s return to CBS Television will feature a rematch between EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler and challenger Scott Smith.

Lawler and Smith faced each other for the first time on the first edition of CBS-EliteXC Saturday Night Fights on May 31 when the fight ended in controversy. While in the midst of a “Fight of the Night” performance in round three, Smith was accidentally poked in the eye by Lawler. The ringside physician deemed Smith unable to continue, so the fight was stopped and ruled a no contest.

Lawler earned the championship in September of last year by finishing off Murilo “Ninja” Rua by TKO.
