10 Questions With John Hawk (by Darrick Patrick)

"Big" John Hawk is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as Bellator Fighting Championships, North American Allied Fight Series, and United Mixed Martial Arts Xtreme Xcitement. At the time of this short interview, his next scheduled match is against Roger Hollett in Bellator Fighting Championships at BFC 57 on November 12th, 2011.

Darrick: What was the path that led you to competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

John: I wrestled my whole life before starting my college wrestling career at Kent State University. After that, I started training Jiu-Jitsu for several years. After winning a lot of grappling tournaments, I took on kickboxing. Six months later, I had my first amateur mixed martial arts fight.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

John: It takes a lot of hard work and training to become a good fighter. MMA is definitely not as easy as it looks. (Laughs)

Darrick: Who is someone in the sport that you highly respect?

John: Marcus Marinelli, the head trainer at Strong Style Martial Arts. He gets every fighter ready and as prepared as possible for each fight.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Roger Hollett on November 12th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

John: This is the biggest fight of my career so far. I'm going to make the most out of it. I will be the most prepared I've ever been for this fight.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

John: Simply the competition.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

John: Family has always inspired me to succeed. I also always like to prove my doubters wrong. Haters are always going to hate, I'm just going to make them hate me even more.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

John: I enjoy hanging out with family and friends. For the most part though, I train all the time. (Laughs)

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

John: Sorry, I'm really not sure about that one at the moment.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

John: Outside of mixed martial arts, I'm probably the biggest teddy bear you'll ever meet. I pretty much get along with everybody.

Darrick: What moments in your life have you been proudest of so far?

John: Graduating from Kent State University, having great family and friends, and winning the amateur and professional NAAFS heavyweight titles.
